Zantingh: Pioneering energy solutions for 90 years

16-06-2025

In 2025, Zantingh will celebrate its 90th anniversary. Over the course of nearly a century, Zantingh has evolved into a leading manufacturer and supplier of gas burners, energy-saving equipment, central heating components, and related services. This achievement has been made possible thanks to a team of skilled professionals who dedicate themselves daily to supporting our customers. Our suppliers also play a vital role, as our close partnerships with them enable us to continue developing modern, high-quality installations. Of course, we owe our continued existence above all to our customers, often long-standing partners, who have placed their trust in us over many years. With that in mind, we look to the future with great confidence.

Zantingh in Historical Perspective

The story begins in 1935, a year marked by the global economic depression. This hardship led Zantingh’s founder to move with his family from the province of Drenthe to the western Netherlands, settling in Haarlemmermeer as a heating installer. Aalsmeer’s flower industry was booming, and greenhouses needed heating, primarily with coal-fired boilers at that time.

After the hardships of World War II, operations resumed with a shift from coal to oil heating, including the import of oil burners from Germany and Denmark. With the introduction of natural gas in the Netherlands at the end of the 1960s, Zantingh developed its own gas burner, expanded its service team, and began trading in pumps, valves, mixing controls, and other central heating components. Thus, the company gradually transitioned from installer to manufacturer and wholesaler of boiler room installations and professional heating components, supported by a 24-hour nationwide service. Zantingh's reputation grew beyond Dutch borders, leading to increased exports.

By the mid-1970s, the second Zantingh generation had taken the helm, just as energy crises threatened to disrupt progress. Energy efficiency became the solution, and Zantingh led the way with innovations that were enthusiastically adopted in greenhouse horticulture. These included flue gas heat recovery and, a few years later, cogeneration systems that produced electricity while capturing residual heat, a technology still crucial to greenhouse energy systems today.

In the late 1990s, after the cogeneration division had passed into new hands, again the next generation Zantingh made its transition into the company. Greenhouse horticulture remained a key focus. With a strong emphasis on scale and international expansion, Zantingh grew into a global player, operating not only from two locations in the Netherlands but also through its own subsidiaries in France and Mexico, and a broad dealer network across many other countries.

Ninety years of Zantingh history has brought much, and the future looks bright. Worldwide, energy supply faces numerous challenges, with the transition to sustainable, climate-neutral solutions taking center stage. Business energy systems are increasingly hybrid, and solar and wind power create fluctuations in supply and demand. Zantingh is responding with innovations such as electric heating solutions, use of residual heat from industrial processes, and the application of sustainable fuels like hydrogen and biogas. As of 2025, Zantingh is younger and more dynamic than ever, which is why we are eager to tackle these challenges together with our customers.
